Crawley prove League credentials
Matt Tubbs scored two second-half goals in the space of two minutes as Football League newcomers Crawley continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 3-0 victory over Southend.
Southend, who had opened their league campaign with two victories, were outplayed in the second half and Tubbs could easily have scored a hat-trick.
Defender Dean Howell gave Town the lead after 56 minutes when he caught out `keeper Glenn Morris with a shot-come-cross which sailed into the roof of the net following a pass from Tyrone Barnett.
Tubbs doubled the hosts` advantage in the 68th minute, sending Morris the wrong way from the penalty spot after substitute Bilel Mohsni had brought down Barnett.
Tubbs then headed the third off a post two minutes later following a cross from the left by Howell, and was unlucky not to win another penalty when tumbled over again by Frenchman Mohsni.
In the first half, the striker should have hit the target early on when blazing over from a long throw by David Hunt.
Goalkeeper Scott Shearer came to Crawley's rescue by diving to save a deflected free-kick by Ryan Hall before keeping out a downward header from Liam Dickinson with his legs.
Crawley midfielder Scott Neilson forced Morris to save from his header shortly before the break following good work by Sergio Torres.
