Blanchard earns Pilgrims a late point

Plymouth's French centre-back Maxine Blanchard scored a spectacular 90th-minute overhead-kick equaliser against promotion-chasing Crawley to lift the Pilgrims out of the bottom two in npower League Two.

Blanchard latched onto a deft Paul Wotton ball back into the area to beat visiting keeper Scott Shearer as Crawley failed to clear a Plymouth corner.

Crawley had earlier taken the lead in first-half stoppage time when David Hunt's free-kick from wide out on the left was headed home from six yards by Red Devils skipper Pablo Mills.

But a late double substitution for Plymouth proved pivotal, as substitute Craig Sutherland raced away down the right before teeing up on-loan Wolves winger Ashley Hemmings. Although Hemmings close-range shot was saved by Shearer, the ball was scrambled away for a corner.

Hemmings' subsequent set-piece pinballed around the area before Wotton floated in a cross and Blanchard sensationally converted.

Crawley striker Tyrone Barnett will rue a first-half stoppage-time miss, just moments after Mills' goal, when he beat the offside trap but not home keeper Jake Cole in a one-on-one situation.
