Vics lifted the excitement level in the second half but the opening period was so lacking in commitment that the two sides only conceded four fouls between them.
Northwich manager Steve Burr said: "It was important the players showed their appreciation to the fans at the finish because they have been marvellous all season.
"In some ways the result didn't matter but as a professional you still want to win every game, whenever it falls and today was no different.
"Our second-half performance was good and we deserved the win."
The game started with Kieran Charnock at one end and Ben Judge at the other, firing in efforts easily held by the respective keeper.
Not a lot happened until the 32nd minute when Crawley's Danny Davidson produced a moment of high individual skill inside the penalty area, but his low shot rebounded off a post.
But Northwich rediscovered their appetite after the break and built up pressure with a series of near misses from Paul Brayson, Francis Tierney and Johnny Allan.
It was Allan who scored what proved to be the winner, expertly directing a header from Michael Carr's cross over Phil Smith and under the crossbar.
Smith made a fine save from Steve Garvey's 30-yard free-kick and bravely flung himself at the feel of Brayson to divert another goalbound effort.
Crawley made a last-ditch attempt to save the game with Smith joining his attackers for a corner but had to scamper back to his own goal to collect a long distance attempt to catch him out by opposite number Kristian Rogers.
