Reds romp to top spot

Goals from Sergio Torres and Dean Howell helped Crawley to a 2-1 victory over Shrewsbury, a result which sees the Reds return to the top of League Two.

Town, who have now won five consecutive league matches, were rewarded for a positive start when Torres tapped them into the lead in the 14th minute.

Tyrone Barnett flicked on Andy Drury's pass and Torres sent Shrewsbury keeper Chris Neal the wrong way with a cool right-foot finish.

Barnett almost doubled Town's lead two minutes later when he picked up possession midway inside Shrewsbury's half and surged past three opposing defenders before dragging his shot narrowly wide.

A stunning 30-yard volley from Lionel Ainsworth then forced Scott Shearer into a spectacular stop while Mark Wright almost drew Shrewsbury level with a close-range header.

But Howell promptly put Crawley two ahead in the 39th minute with an exquisite free-kick which curled over the Shrewsbury wall and into the net.

The away side set up a tense finish when Wright scrambled Joe Jacobson's cross over the line in the 72nd minute but Crawley held on to secure a well-deserved victory.
